Is it time to declutter your skincare cupboard too?

If you’re like us this lockdown has you on overdrive with the cleaning and decluttering. Have you thought about doing the same in your beauty drawer\cupboard ? The one that is bursting with numerous brands claiming to fix all your skin concerns. I mean how long has it even been in there?

You’ve got time look at the ingredients, and educate yourself on what it is that you are putting on your skin.

Ones to look out for:

  • Denatured Alcohol – Can I start by saying denatured alcohol is not an ingredient you want to see on that label. It is a huge skin disrupter, weakens your acid mantle and can cause skin sensitivities. (Plus much more)
  • Fragrance – This one doesn’t sound so scary, but “fragrance” is considered a trade secret which means that companies don’t even have disclose what ingredients are inside. Fragrances (even natural ones) can cause redness, sensitivities and also cause your skin to become more UV sensitive. Finally- while it might smell nice, fragrance served no purpose in your overall skin health.
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and/or Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)- Commonly used in foaming products such as shampoo, cleansers, face washes and even floor cleaner. They are designed to reduce surface tension and degrease oil.SLS and SLES are known to cause skin irritation and trigger different allergies. So while they leave your skin feeling super clean they will also cause barrier issues, dehydration and even cause more oil production long term.

Less can be More

In short, you want to make sure what your using isn’t contributing to the problems your having. Sometimes a less is more approach is the answer to seeing skin improvements.

Why not reduce the amount or types of products you are using and see how your skin feels and looks. Monitor its progress over the next few weeks and see what your skin really needs.
