While they aren’t painful or even a health concern, milia can definitely be an irritation or a frustration for many. It can make you feel self-conscious especially when it appears on your eyelids, your cheekbones, or across your nose. This is why milia removal has been know to restore your confidence, making you feel much better about yourself.
What is Milia?
They look like a tiny spot , they are white in colour and feel quite hard to touch.
Often referred to ass ‘Milk Spots’ they are not a result of inflammation or clogged pores. In fact, they have nothing to do with your pores, but are actually caused by a buildup of keratin under the epidermis, or the top layer of skin.
Keratin is a naturally occurring protein that helps build and rejuvenate skin, nails, and hair. However, when dead skin cells are not sloughed off properly, keratin can become trapped, causing small white cysts to form.
What are they Caused by?
Some people are genetically prone to developing milia spots but they are most often caused by the use of skin care products and cosmetics that contain heavy oils, particularly mineral oil or lanolin.
Unless you professionally remove these spots from the face, there is no chance that they may go away. (If you’ve tried to you will know how difficult it can be).
How to get rid of them?
We use a specialist treatment know as Advanced Cosmetic Procedure.
It uses a fine tip probe (the thickness of an eyelash) to send a current into the milia. This current breaks down the congestion (or keratin buildup) so that it can be reabsorbed into the skin. This treatment is virtually painless and requires no cutting or invasive procedures.
Sometimes genetics give us undesirable skin traits that we’d otherwise prefer not to have but there’s always something you can do about it.
Our Expert Skin Therapists can work wonders, and when you combine these procedures with a prescriptive , healthy skin care regime, you will be able to manage future milia from appearing.
